Company History
R & D
Transport began operation on July 20, 1981 in Brownsburg, Indiana. The
principals were two brothers with similar backgrounds in the trucking industry.
The brothers were Rex and Dan Hockaday which is where the name of the trucking
company, R & D Transport, was derived.
In the beginning, there were five drivers, two of which were the
owners Rex and Dan, and one office administrator/dispatcher which was Rex's
wife, Fredda Hockaday. There were three trucks and the only products hauled at
this point were gasoline and diesel.
In 1982, Rex and Dan's father, Reo joined R & D and added another
type of company into the revenue stream. That company, Transport Services,
repairs transport tanks for R & D and many other tank transport companies.
Transport Services currently holds an "R" rating, as a required credential to
weld on the barrel of "spec" tanks.
R & D and Transport Services both operated from the same location
in Brownsburg, Indiana. However, due to the growth of both companies it was
determined that they should separate into two individual companies.
During 1993 and 1994, both Rex and
Reo passed away leaving Dan Hockaday as the President of both companies.
Although times were rough, both companies survived and prospered. R & D
Transport is now stronger than ever running 34 company trucks and 12 owner
operators, and employing 50 company personnel. Currently, R & D not only
hauls gasoline and diesel, but several other products as
well.
In April of 1996, R & D
Transport relocated to Clermont, Indiana while Transport Services remained at
the original Brownsburg location.
R
& D Transport started as a family owned company and we are proud that
through the growth we have experienced, we continue with a family oriented
atmosphere in our work environment. |
